- 2011 National Specialty General Evaulation by Fred Lanting “The Shiloh Shepherds at this 2011 National Specialty Show were representatives of two registries (which I hope will unite for the sake of the breed), and overall were good example of the Shiloh breed that I have been intimately knowledgeable with since its foundation and for years before, in its foundation stock and the dogs leading up to that. Some of the dogs could have been little larger, but overall the entrants were representative of the breed. I have seen both at this show and recent Shiloh specialties elsewhere an improvement in temperament/character, and in earset & carriage. Dentition is still very good, with only a couple having missing teeth; however, attention must be paid to preferably not breeding two dogs together who both have overcrowding of the lower jaws, which is shown by an uneven curve to the lower incisors. Feet, pasterns, and trueness coming & going are all very good. Some attention should be given to toplines, with dogs that are low in the withers not being bred unless they have exceptional other traits, and then only to dogs with no indication of that in the near ancestry. The two groups represented at this show have been doing a good job, and I hope all three will eventually reunite for the good of the breed.” ~Fred Lanting, Willow Wood Consulting, 7/25/2011
